Enhance Your Homeschool Bible Study Routine for Elementary Students

As a long-time Christian homeschool mom, I have always prioritized finding the right Bible study curriculum for my children. Over the years, we’ve explored various resources to create a meaningful and engaging Bible study experience for our family. Of course, some things we have tried have been more engaging than others. But this year, we discovered a new approach for my elementary-aged boys that has significantly enhanced our Bible study time. In this post, I’ll share our thoughts and explore how it can enhance your homeschool Bible study routine for elementary as well.

For context, we tried Master Books in our fourth-grade year through Language Lessons for a Living Education 4. I had heard so much positive feedback about how easy Master Books is to use and how open-and-go it is. Well, I will have to write an entire post about that experience later, but the bottom line is my boys loved it! So we returned to Master Books to try their Living Faith Bible Curriculum, More Than Words: Level 2. And I am so glad that we did; I can’t wait to share this one with you guys! If you have followed me for long, you know that I get incredibly excited when I find unique Biblical curriculum.

Transitioning to an Authentic Bible Study for Elementary

We have used various Bible-based homeschool curriculum resources over the years, and I was ready for my boys to transition to something that facilitated a deeper study of God’s word. My boys have come to a point where they are very familiar with children’s Bible stories. Still, I wanted them to have something that guided us into more than just reviewing Children’s Bible stories each day. Ideally, we were ready to begin working through positive character traits, learning to dig deeper into the word, and creating a solid Bible study routine.

Basically, I wanted something that mimicked a full-on Bible study but was age-appropriate for my upper elementary students. A Bible study that would begin to prepare them for how to study the Bible. Oh, and keep it engaging enough that my children will enjoy it and want to continue doing it each day.

Establishing a doable homeschool Bible study routine for elementary that my kids could build upon as they grow sounds amazing. So, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to use the Living Faith Bible Curriculum, More Than Words from Master Books. (And…spoiler alert, it did not disappoint!)

Establishing a Homeschool Bible Study Routine

I have been doing Bible study with all my kids for some time. Over the years, I have tried various biblical resources to help make learning about the Bible and God’s Word enjoyable. I don’t want my children to avoid reading the Bible when they get older because they don’t know how to or because they believe it’s boring!

In different seasons of homeschooling, we have used everything from crafts, videos, art, hands-on activities, and more to help bring the Bible to life for them. So far, these attempts have been successful; my kids love Bible time in our homeschool.

Here are two tips that have helped me establish a solid Bible study routine at home over the years:

  1. Consistency. Staying consistent has been one way that we have integrated a solid Bible study routine. No skipping, even if when you begin, it’s just 10 minutes a day for 3 or 4 days a week. Start with something simple, and then build on that. After cultivating a simple yet solid routine, you will naturally increase the amount of time. Before you know it, you will be doing 20-30 a day for 3-4 days a week. Luckily, the Living Faith Bible Curriculum, More Than Words Level 2, includes a 4-day-a-week plan that is incredibly easy to follow!
  2. Make it Fun. I always require respect and reverence when we do Bible time in our homeschool. However, I also believe that studying God’s word is exciting! As I mentioned before, I love to incorporate activities that show my children that studying the Bible can be enjoyable. What impressed me about the Living Faith Bible Curriculum, More Than Words Level 2 from Master Books, is that the author, Rebecca Spooner, weaved in many beautiful opportunities for kids to connect God to our daily lives engagingly. Each day, your children work on a different aspect of that week’s homeschool Bible curriculum plan. It’s wonderful; my kids did not get bored with that variation in daily activities.

What to Expect from the Living Faith Bible Curriculum, More Than Words Level 2:

  • Easy to follow 4-day-a-week plan.
  • Opportunities for journaling and creativity.
  • Story style presentation from fellow homeschool children.
  • Art study.
  • Hymn study.
  • Scripture study.
  • Character study.
  • Poetry study.
  • Memory work.
  • Copy work.
  • Worship.
  • Open-and-go, minimal prep from mom.
  • Minimal supplies are required.

And that’s not all!

Now, if you think that is too much, I promise each day can be completed in a manageable amount of time: 20-30 minutes. But, of course, you can linger as long as you choose! It is easy to lose track of time with this homeschool Bible curriculum, in a good way, of course.

The Master Books Approach to Education

Another reason I was so excited to use Living Faith Bible Curriculum, More Than Words: Level 2, is the approach Master Books takes to education. As an eclectic Christian homeschool mom of 15+ years (and about eight more to go), I admire how Master Books intermingles the best parts of popular educational methods and styles to give our children a well-rounded educational experience.

For example, in Living Faith Bible Curriculum, More Than Words: Level 2, you see a wonderful blend of activities incorporating Charlotte Mason, hands-on, and various educational styles to make a top-notch Bible study curriculum for kids. Blending the best of particular educational methods makes it work for many families with children of all learning styles.

Is Living Faith Bible Curriculum, More Than Words Level 2 Right for Your Family’s Homeschool Bible Study Routine?

You are in the perfect age range if you have upper elementary-aged students around grades 4-6. However, not to worry: Living Faith Bible Curriculum, More Than Words Level 1 is also available for children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. (I wish it was around when my kiddos were younger; I definitely would have used Level 1, too!)

This Bible study curriculum will also work well for learning styles that enjoy visual and hands-on elements. It has a balanced blend of simple activities that are great for most learning styles.

A four-day-a-week Bible study plan is manageable for most homeschool families. It also allows for an extra day of the week to complete projects or missions from the Living Faith Bible Curriculum, More Than Words Level 2. By the way, my boys (almost 9 and 10) think the missions are so cool! The missions are opportunities to put what they are learning into practice.

Lastly, it is a fantastic fit for moms like me who want to stay consistent in keeping God at the center of their homeschooling. It’s open and go, which requires no prep work from me or reading the lessons ahead of time. (I love that!)

Living Faith Bible Curriculum, More Than Words Level 2 by Master Books, is divided into four units, with 36 weeks of lessons in total.

  • Who Is God?
  • Who Am I to God?
  • Walking the Walk
