Supernatural Event and Its Possibility

A supernatural event is an order of existence outside scientific understanding. Specifically, it involves people, places, or happenings that defy the laws of nature.

Often, people attribute this to immaterial forces or beings. These are angels, gods, ghosts, spirits, and even God or the devil.

No Bible character had powers. They were not capable of doing anything impossible. But through faith and prayer, God’s power worked miracles through them.

10 Bible Characters Who Did the Impossible

Jacob

Jacob was the second son of Isaac and Rebekah.

  • He stole his brother’s birthright.

As the firstborn son, Esau had the birthright. For this reason, only he could inherit his father’s property and citizenship. However, he did not care about this.

Meanwhile, Jacob wanted the blessing for himself. Through the help of his mother, he tricked his father by pretending to be Esau. Eventually, he obtained the birthright.

  • He wrestled with God.

One night, while Jacob was alone, a stranger came out of nowhere.

He began wrestling with him. Jacob was so determined to win that the fight lasted until morning.

The man saw that Jacob would not give up. Soon, he asked to leave as it was already daybreak. However, Jacob pleaded for a blessing before he left.

He knew it was Jesus. Feeling Jacob’s eagerness and determination, the Lord finally blessed him.

Then, He named him “Israel.” It meant that he had won the struggle with God and men.

Abraham

Abram was a native of Ur in Mesopotamia.

God called him to leave his country to a place He would show him. There, He promised to make him the father of all nations. Hence, He changed Abram’s name to Abraham. Likewise, Sarai became Sarah.

Unfortunately, the couple had no children. Sarah was too old to bear a child. Soon, Abraham had a son with another woman, Hagar. He named him Ishmael. However, he was not the promised son.

One day, three men visited Abraham. Treating them with hospitality, he knew they were not ordinary men. They were God and two angels. So, he requested them to stay longer.

Later, the Lord said that Sarah would have a son. In doubt, the couple laughed. Abraham argued that Sarah was already ninety years old. However, He reassured them.

Soon, the promise had its fulfillment. Sarah did give birth to a son. Abraham named him Isaac, as God instructed.

Noah

Noah was a righteous man, the father of three children.

God realized how wicked the world was during his time. Thus, He planned to wash the earth through a flood. For this, He instructed him to build an ark that would save all people.

For a hundred and twenty years, he preached and finished the ark. He encouraged people to get into it while there was still time.

Unfortunately, no one believed him because they have never seen rain yet. They thought he was just crazy.

Soon, the rain started falling. It filled the earth with a flood. Sadly, only Noah and his family survived. It was too late for those mockers to change their minds.

Joseph

Joseph was one of the twelve sons of Jacob.

He was his father’s favorite. Hence, his brothers felt jealous. More so, when they learned about his dreams, they became angry. Those dreams told them that they would someday worship him.

Eventually, his brothers sold him to Egypt. Joseph became a slave there. However, his excellent character helped him survive. Also, his talent for interpreting dreams earned the king’s favor.

For instance, he was able to interpret the king’s dream about a coming famine. It would bring massive starvation. Hence, he made him governor.

One day, Joseph’s brothers went to Egypt to buy food. They did not recognize him, but he knew them by their faces. After some tests of honesty, Joseph realized how their brothers have positively changed.

Finally, he revealed himself. They could not believe it. Later on, they brought their father Jacob and the youngest son Benjamin. It was then a family reunion.

Imagine how a poor brother became a hero to his family because of faith!

It amazed everyone, wondering how it could happen. Soon, the Israelites heard the Egyptians chasing them with chariots.

Suddenly, God sent a pillar of fire and cloud. It disturbed the enemies. Fortunately, the Israelites had already reached the other side of the land. Then, the waters came back and struck the enemies.

Joshua

After Moses’ death, Joshua took over the leadership of the Israelites.

The battle of Jericho was his first conquest to win the land of Canaan. For this, God taught him a strategy.

Specifically, the army had to march around the city once a day for six days. While marching, soldiers had to play their trumpets. Meanwhile, the priests were to carry the ark of the covenant. On the seventh day, they had to march seven times.

The Israelites did as God instructed. Finally, the walls of Jericho fell.

Before his birth, the Lord made his parents a vow. Specifically, they should not let him drink alcoholic beverages. Also, they should never cut his hair.

Unfortunately, he once broke this religious obligation. For instance, he feasted with a Philistine woman. During this time, the Philistines were Israel’s mortal enemies. Samson even engaged in a private war with them. He would always claim victory.

However, he fell victim when he fell in love with Delilah, a Philistine as well. In particular, she tricked him into revealing the secret of his strength. Eventually, she cut his hair while he was asleep.

As a result, the Philistines captured, blinded, and enslaved Samson. However, God did not forsake him. He granted him revenge by gradually restoring his strength. Finally, he destroyed the massive Philistine temple.

A young shepherd, David was the son of Jesse.

Once, there was a war in Israel. King Saul and the Israelites joined to fight against the Philistines. One of the enemies was a giant named Goliath.

Goliath challenged the Israelites to choose a man to fight him. For forty days, he shouted every morning and night. Unfortunately, no one dared to step forward.

Coincidentally, David’s father asked him to bring his brothers some food. Coming to the army, he saw Goliath. Seeing everyone afraid, he volunteered. Despite his brothers’ disapproval, he firmly took the decision.

Later, he prayed and picked up five stones. Then, he took his sling and went to the fight. Goliath made fun of David, but the latter strongly believed in God.

When David threw a stone from his sling, it hit Goliath’s head. Surprisingly, the giant fell to the ground. David then took the enemy’s sword and cut off his head.

Daniel and his friends were among the Israelite captives for Babylon.

  • They survived the fiery furnace.

As servants of King Nebuchadnezzar, they were to obey his decrees. It included bowing down to his golden image to worship him. Daniel and his friends refused to bow down.

They argued they would worship only the one true God in heaven. It made Nebuchadnezzar angry. Thus, he ordered his men to burn them in a fire.

Surprisingly, Daniel and his friends seemed to be well inside the furnace. The witnesses even saw that there was a fifth man. It was Jesus.

When they went out, they had no trace of the burn.

  • Daniel interpreted the writings on the wall.

One day, there was a feast in Babylon. King Nebuchadnezzar and his people were enjoying the night like it was their last.

All of a sudden, they saw a hand that was writing something on the wall. The king called Daniel, who he considered a wise man.

Coincidentally, another king has just entered Babylon during that time.

  • Daniel survived the lion’s den.

During the reign of King Darius, people did not like Daniel. Mainly, his prayerful habit would annoy them.

As such, they convinced the king to make a decree regarding worship. It stated that those who would refuse to worship him would be in trouble. Specifically, he would throw them to the lion’s den.

Daniel became a victim of the law. The king never realized it until he learned that he was with the lions already.

Daniel prayed and prayed. Surprisingly, the lions did not touch nor come near him. It amazed Darius when he went to see him.

Jesus

If there was someone who had the most miraculous performances in the Bible, it was Jesus. There was no other!

These are just some of the many miracles He performed:

  • Turning water into wine

This miracle was the first one the Bible documented.

Jesus, his mother Mary, and the disciples attended a wedding at Cana. When the wine ran out, He delivered a sign of divinity. That is, he turned water into wine.

  • Healing the royal official’s son in Capernaum

This event was the second documented miracle in the Bible.

Specifically, Jesus visited Cana in Galilee once more. There laid a royal official who traveled 20 miles on foot. His son was sick. Begging Jesus with faith, He healed his son.

  • Healing the paralytic man at Bethesda

Jesus was visiting Jerusalem for a Jewish feast. There, he encountered a paralytic man who used to lie there. This condition lasted for thirty-eight years.

Jesus told him to pick up his bed and walk. Instantly, the man could stand and walk.

  • Feeding the five thousand

Jesus and His disciples returned from a missionary journey. The boat landed on the Sea of Galilee.

There was a big crowd of people, about five thousand. Most of them were sick. As Jesus was doing ministry, he asked Peter where to buy food for the people.

Later, Peter brought forward a young boy. He had five loaves of bread and two fish. Jesus told the people to sit down in groups.

Then, He took the bread and fish and gave thanks to His Father. He passed them to his disciples and distributed them to the people.

Surprisingly, the food multiplied and did not run out.
