Math Mammoth • Affordable Homeschool Curriculum for 7th Grade

When I search for homeschool curriculum I am looking for two things; affordable and simplistic. Like many homeschool families, we have to watch our homeschool curriculum budget. You can quickly go overboard with all of the choices available these days. Especially if you are homeschooling multiple children, you know how easy it is to overspend. Also like you, I am homeschooling and parenting several children, so prep time is a huge factor for me.

I have worked hard to cultivate an independent learner, and with a large spread in age between my oldest child and my younger ones I need my oldest to begin her homeschool day on her own. I also don’t have hours upon hours to set up our lesson plans each week. We need a simple yet effective curriculum that allows my independent learner to work through at her own pace efficiently.

I was recently introduced to Math Mammoth and was overjoyed when I realized that they hit both of these key points! Affordable AND simplistic.

I received this curriculum and compensation for my time in writing this review. However, my opinions are my own and unbiased. For more information, please see my full Disclosure Policy.

We are using Math Mammoth’s 7th Grade Light Blue Series and what a breath of fresh mathematic air. There is minimal prep required of me, and my daughter can move through the curriculum on her own with little instruction from me. Of course, I am available for assistance and questions, but it is such a productive feeling when your child can zip through a lesson on their own.

There are so many things I love about Math Mammoth’s 7th Grade Light Blue Series for a homeschool pre-algebra curriculum. Besides the affordability compared to a lot of other math choices out there, Math Mammoth also has so many free resources available to homeschoolers. You know a company is committed to helping the homeschool community with freebies such as free placement tests, free math worksheets, and free curriculum samples. They also have an impressive mini math teaching course! Yes. A mini-course to assist homeschool parents with tips on teaching math, that is an invaluable resource if you ask me.

Math Mammoth Light Blue Series is for grades 1-7 and is mastery based with a focus on conceptual understanding. They use visual models in the exercises which can be great for children that are visual learners. Each chapter contains links to additional games, quizzes, and other resources.

We found it incredibly handy that all of their material is also topically organized. So if your student is having trouble mastering a particular area you can go straight to it and work through that section and additional resources until you get it right. This feature is extremely beneficial when working with a student who struggles with math or particular math concepts. My daughter has a few areas within pre-algebra that she needs to focus on more intently and master; I love that we don’t have to search through the program. You can easily find where you need to hop over to by using the contents. And if you need more practice beyond that, use the links provided to extra worksheets.
